The Digital Climate Strike

"Millions of school climate strikers have been leaving their classrooms every Friday. Now they hope that everyone else will join them in action."

By Reason Digital · September 19, 2019

What we are doing

We are taking part in a digital climate strike, by closing down the Reason Digital website on the 20th of September 2019 in support of the #GlobalClimateStrike.

We’re also giving our staff the option to attend Friday’s protest in Manchester city centre.

Why we are doing it

The planet is burning. We are seeing the effects of climate change now and if we carry on with ‘business as normal’ it is only going to get worse.

At Reason, we are actively working on reducing our carbon footprint on the planet. We prefer transport that is low in carbon, we provide reusable travel flasks to staff, we plant greenery in our local square in Manchester, we provide a cycle to work scheme to all staff, we recycle, we use local vegetarian caterers for events, we provide railcards for staff and our food supplies are delivered to us with no single-use plastic. For our clients, we are also investigating ways in which we can offer carbon footprint offsetting as part of every digital solution we create.

There is so much more we want and need to do.

The challenge is that no matter how much change we make as individual companies and people we need systematic change led by our leaders.

Why aren’t we striking?

As a social enterprise that works exclusively with clients that do social good, we feel that it would be unfair on our amazing partners and the people they serve to walk out for the day. As a compromise, we are putting the Reason Digital website on strike on our behalf.
