Social impact growth: text alternative

The diagram

The diagram displays a four phased approach to social impact growth and measurement.

The four phases are, in order, initiation, discovery, production and evaluation. Under each of these four phases are outcomes, activities and outputs. For example in column one we can see the heading which is ‘Initiation’ and underneath it we can see the outcomes of initiation, the activities of initiation and the outputs of initiation. We have broken down each phase below.

Initiation

Outcomes

  • Stakeholder buy in at all levels across the project team
  • Understanding of what data is currently collected and any gaps
  • High level goals defined and understood

Activities

  • Full team kick off session
  • Exploration with data lead on project

Outputs

  • Documented data sources and systems

Discovery

Outcomes

  • Understanding of user problems and pain points
  • Understanding of intended and unintended consequences of innovation
  • Understanding our starting point and baseline data

Activities

  • Gather quantitative baseline data
  • Review qualitative user research
  • Select most appropriate measurement scale
  • Run ‘ Consequence scanning’ workshop
  • Define our impact hypotheses (for user and organisation)

Outputs

  • Impact hypothesis section in discovery report
  • Data log

Production

Outcomes

  • Understand how the digital solution can facilitate data capture
  • Method of measuring impact on an ongoing basis

Activities

  • Create impact measurement model
  • Provide guidelines for using model on ongoing basis
  • Revisit and refine hypotheses

Outputs

  • Impact measurement model

Evaluation

Outcomes

After 3/6/21 months we’ll know…

  • How solution is performing against our hypotheses
  • Any unintended consequences realised
  • Improvements to make to the solution based on usage and feedback

Activities

  • Conduct user interviews
  • Analyse performance against hypotheses
  • Produce evaluation report
  • Update the backlog and roadmap
  • Deliver feedback and ‘Where next?’ session

Outputs

  • Evaluation report
  • Updated roadmap
  • Updated requirements
